Arizona Senate Majority Leader Janae Shamp has expressed strong criticism of the ongoing riots in Los Angeles, attributing the unrest to Democratic leadership in California. Shamp specifically pointed to Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of allowing violence to escalate.
“Anarchists have turned the streets of LA into a warzone, underscoring the dangerous agenda Democrats have destroyed California with,” Shamp stated. She emphasized that while peaceful protest is a right, the violent acts observed are unacceptable and undermine public safety. Shamp voiced her frustration as an Arizonan witnessing these events unfold in a neighboring state.
She further criticized those who claim to advocate for justice while engaging in destructive behavior such as setting fires, looting businesses, and attacking law enforcement. According to Shamp, these actions betray the principles of peaceful protest and exacerbate community damage following previous incidents of arson in Southern California.
Shamp accused Los Angeles’ mayor and California’s governor of failing to prevent the riots, suggesting they prioritize undocumented individuals over American citizens. She praised former President Trump for his response to the situation: “President Trump is taking swift action and doing what Americans expect of their elected leaders.”
Additionally, she condemned Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs for aligning with what she described as a “woke mob” led by Governor Newsom. “Arizonans are demanding you do better,” she concluded.
