Colby Brandt has been appointed as the Chief of Police for the Glendale Police Department, following a four-month period serving as interim chief. This announcement was made by Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. Brandt is a 28-year veteran of the department, having held leadership roles across every division.

“In Glendale, we have been fortunate to have been able to promote exceptional leaders into the position of Police Chief who have served at all ranks within the department and reflect the values that make us special,” said Phelps. “Colby Brandt embodies this tradition of homegrown leadership. He not only brings a wealth of experience, but he also understands our community and cares about it deeply.”

Brandt, who joined the Glendale Police Department in 1997, is a second-generation law enforcement officer. His focus includes officer development, building regional partnerships, and enhancing public safety. Among his priorities are strengthening traffic safety through improved speed enforcement tools and maintaining Glendale as a safe place for residents and visitors.

“I’m honored to lead the exceptional men and women of the Glendale Police Department and serve the community where I was born and raised,” said Chief Brandt. “I’ve had incredible mentors throughout my career who have prepared me to lead us into the future, and I’m grateful for the continued support of my wife and family, our elected officials, city management and community.”

Before becoming chief, Brandt served as Administrative Services Commander with responsibilities over training, personnel, budget, grants, audits, and research functions. His previous roles include Patrol Officer, Property Crimes Detective, Auto Theft Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Neighborhood Response Squad Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, General Investigations Lieutenant and Gateway Patrol Commander.

Brandt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Ottawa University and a Master of Science degree in Homeland Security from Pennsylvania Western University. He is also an alumnus of several prestigious programs including the FBI National Academy.

He has been married for 30 years with two children; one currently serves in the United States Air Force.
