Congressman Abe Hamadeh, who won the 2024 general election against Gregory Whitten with 56.5% of the vote, has reiterated his commitment to returning Kayla Mueller’s remains to her family and addressing concerns over election integrity in recent posts on social media.
On August 11, 2025, Hamadeh’s office stated: “Congressman Hamadeh remains dedicated to bringing Kayla Mueller’s remains back home & giving her parents, Carl and Marsha, much-needed closure. The Congressman made interim Syrian President al-Sharaa well aware that it’s critical for his country to help facilitate Kayla’s”. The same day, a related post added: “Read US congressman discusses with Syrian president return of body of American killed in Syria”.
Later that day, Hamadeh addressed domestic issues regarding election practices by Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. In a separate post dated August 11, he wrote: “Overstepping his authority & again demonstrating his flagrant disregard for the integrity of our elections, @Adrian_Fontes is exploiting voting in the name of the very servicemembers who protect that freedom. Congressman Hamadeh’s PROVE Act fixes this.”
Kayla Mueller was an American humanitarian worker from Arizona who was taken hostage and killed by ISIS militants in Syria in 2015. Efforts to recover her remains have continued for years as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between U.S. officials and representatives from Syria.
Abraham Hamadeh secured his congressional seat after defeating Gregory Whitten in the 2024 general election by a margin of nearly thirteen percentage points.
