The Office of Congressman Abe Hamadeh has recently used its official social media account to highlight Arizona’s unique connection to Pluto and advocate for its recognition as a planet.
On April 11, 2026, the office posted a message welcoming someone home: “Welcome home! https://t.co/A6mQronW9D”.
Later that day, another post referenced support for classifying Pluto as a planet: “Kaela- Congressman Hamadeh agrees!
He recently sent a letter to President Trump asking for the same thing. It’s time Arizona’s planet was rightfully classified! https://t.co/VuTQIDyXWR” (April 11, 2026).
On April 13, 2026, the office provided historical context regarding Pluto’s discovery and status in Arizona law: “On February 18, 1930, Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona — the only planet discovered in the United States in the 20th century.
Even after its 2006 reclassification, Arizona law still officially recognizes Pluto as our state planet.”
Abraham Hamadeh was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Gregory Whitten with 56.5% of the vote. His recent communications underscore ongoing local sentiment regarding Pluto’s planetary status and reflect efforts to influence federal recognition of this designation.
