Student-athletes in the Glendale Union High School District will have access to free sports screening physicals for the upcoming school year during the annual TOPS Free Sports Screening Physicals event, scheduled for April 18 at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix.

The event aims to make it easier and more affordable for families to ensure their students are cleared to participate in athletics. These physicals are required each year after April 1 and will be valid throughout the entire 2026–2027 school year.

Physicals will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with specific time slots assigned by each participating school. Walk-in appointments are also available during these hours. Only official TOPS forms will be accepted, which can be obtained from coaches, athletic departments, or downloaded from the TOPS website. Parents or guardians must complete all necessary sections of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) form before arrival, including signatures on both the waiver and Page 5 of the AIA form.

Students should follow several guidelines for their appointments: use only black or blue ink on white paper, avoid double-sided printing and folding papers, wear appropriate attire such as a sports bra if female, bring corrective eyewear if needed, and note that immunization records are not required. The process involves nine steps—potentially ten if an ECHO is needed—including check-up procedures like vision testing and heart sound evaluation.

The Glendale Union High School District provides a wide range of extracurricular activities including championship athletics and fine arts programs according to its official website. The district emphasizes safety and inclusivity as core values according to its official website. All schools within the district have received “A” ratings and national recognition as top high schools according to its official website.

The district includes ten comprehensive high schools serving grades nine through twelve according to its official website, offering rigorous academics along with STEM programs, career education opportunities, and extracurricular support for student growth according to its official website. Governance is provided by a five-member board whose members serve four-year terms according to its official website.
