Glendale Union honors five staff members marking 25 years of service

The Glendale Union High School District Governing Board has recognized five staff members from Glendale High School for completing 25 years of service. The honorees are Angela Johnson, Brooke Goldman-Eckert, Edna Reilly, Tamara Lazenby, and Will Diaz. Each has contributed to the school’s environment through a range of roles supporting students, families, and colleagues.

Angela Johnson has spent her career as an English Language Arts teacher and leader at Glendale High School. She has taught various courses, including Advanced Placement literature, and mentored new educators since 2012. She is currently the ELA Department Chair and previously served in positions such as Varsity Spiritline Coach and Yearbook Sponsor. Her work was recognized with the Achievement Above All Teacher Award during the 2021–2022 school year.

Brooke Goldman-Eckert teaches in the Special Education Department as a Learning Skills teacher and serves as Student Council Advisor. Over her 25 years at Glendale High School, she has also chaired the Special Education Department and organized major events like Homecoming and campus celebrations. She received Achievement Above All awards in both 2010–2011 and 2019–2020.

Edna Reilly is the Counseling Secretary who supports student registration processes and provides translation services. Her previous roles include working as a Special Education Life Skills aide and EL Compliance aide. She helps coordinate communication for IEP meetings and organizes support programs for families in need during holidays. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Achievement Above All award in 2010-2011.

Tamara (Tammy) Lazenby works as Assistant to Student Services and Counseling Secretary. She manages student enrollments, coordinates Honors and Awards events, oversees student assessments, and assists with state testing preparations. Earlier in her career she worked as a paraprofessional in ELL classes and became Glendale’s first EL Compliance Aide. Lazenby was honored with an Achievement Above All award during the 2009–2010 school year.

Will Diaz is an English Learner Paraprofessional who supports language development among students at Glendale High School after serving as an IT Specialist at Washington High School. He assists with EL instruction, registration events, Future Freshmen Night, among other activities supporting students’ academic journeys. His work was acknowledged by an Achievement Above All award for support staff in 2005-2006.

According to information on the Glendale Union High School District website, all schools within the district have earned “A” ratings and national recognition for excellence among America’s best high schools. The district operates ten comprehensive high schools serving grades nine through twelve across Glendale, Arizona; it offers rigorous academics—including opportunities for college credit—STEM education programs through partnerships like West-MEC, career training initiatives, extracurriculars such as championship athletics or fine arts programs supported by dedicated staff focused on student growth.

The district promotes a safe environment emphasizing respect for all students while delivering academic programs designed to foster personal development (source). Governance is provided by a five-member board whose members serve four-year terms (source).

The achievements of these five employees highlight long-term commitment that helps maintain stability within Glendale High School’s culture while providing continuity for generations of students.
