Mayor Jerry P. Weiers of Glendale has ruled an emergency proclamation for face coverings to be used during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the city’s website on June 19.
He announced an emergency meeting that the order would start on June 20.
Under the proclamation, those who are six and older will need to wear a face covering while in public, if social distancing isn’t adhered to.
Those who suffer from medical conditions, disabilities and team sports are exempt from the mandate.
“The COVID-19 virus has caused me to think about and consider policy issues that I could never have imagined a year ago. I take my responsibility for the welfare of our community seriously and I cannot shy away from the impact COVID-19 has had throughout our community and beyond, but instead must be resolute in my actions in doing what I feel to be right for the health and well-being of Glendale citizens and visitors," he said, according to the city's website.
