U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko has urged the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reconsider its decision to reclassify Maricopa County as "serious" nonattainment for ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). This move, according to Lesko, contradicts prior communications indicating that the change would not take effect until later in 2025.

Lesko expressed concerns about the potential impact of this expedited schedule on both Arizona and national security. She highlighted that "the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) was just awarded $6.6 Billion in CHIPS Act funding," and suggested that the EPA's action could jeopardize this funding.

The Congresswoman has communicated her concerns through letters addressed to both the EPA and the Commerce Department.
