Sean Myers, the lead pastor of Pella Communities, delivered a sermon to students at Grand Canyon University during Chapel on Monday. The event took place at the Global Credit Union Arena, where he focused on one of Jesus' Beatitudes from Matthew 5:6: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

Myers emphasized the significance of the terms "hunger" and "thirst," explaining that they symbolize a deep desire. He stated that true satisfaction is achieved by aligning one's life with Jesus' teachings. "If you take Jesus’ way of living and apply it to your life, you will actually find satisfaction," Myers said.

He cautioned against seeking satisfaction through means that do not align with Christian values. Myers illustrated his point by referencing contentment observed in older generations, suggesting that such contentment comes from following Jesus' path.

During his sermon, Myers shared a personal anecdote about a conversation with his daughter at Home Depot. Her curiosity about the origin of wood led to questions about human existence and purpose. This interaction prompted Myers to reflect on the purposefulness of creation according to Christian beliefs.

Myers advised listeners to evaluate their desires and ensure they align with Jesus' teachings as outlined in the Sermon on the Mount. He quoted theologian John Piper, encouraging believers not just to sample God's offerings but to truly hunger for them.

In closing, Myers expressed hope that followers would recognize not only the correctness but also the goodness of Jesus' ways. He assured them that Jesus cares deeply about their joy and fulfillment.

The next Chapel speaker will be Dan Steffen, lead pastor of Pure Heart Church, scheduled for March 3 at 11 a.m., also at Global Credit Union Arena.
