First Service Medical LLC (FSM) recently purchased the abandoned Peoria Regional Medical Center (PRMC) site to build a new cutting-edge medical campus.
Originally intended to be Peoria’s first hospital, the PRMC sat partially constructed for nine years after work stopped a year after commencing, according to a release by the City of Peoria. Legal proceedings have prevented demolition until now. A condition of the purchase by FSM, demolition can now happen without much delay.
“Peoria has spent many years working to remove the skeletal remains of PRMC and although many roadblocks have stalled our efforts, Peoria persevered in securing a demolition order, while working to find the right owner for this site,” said Mayor Cathy Carlat in a press release. “We are thankful for First Service Medical’s commitment to demolishing the blighted structure and we look forward to the development of a superior medical campus to serve our growing community.”
The leaders of this new project are experienced hospital and real estate developers. FSM is pleased to be creating a useful commercial development in the community, principal of FSM Matt Leach said in a release.
Details of the new development are still to come, but the City of Peoria’s Economic Development Department anticipates the new medical campus will provide the community with jobs and economic growth.
