City of Glendale issued the following announcement on Jan. 19.
Glendale Vice Mayor Jamie Aldama has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2022 Public Safety and Crime Prevention (PSCP) Federal Advocacy Committee.
Vice Mayor Aldama was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities. The appointment was announced by NLC President, Mayor Vince Williams of Union City, Georgia.
“It is a privilege I do not take lightly to serve on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee, says Glendale Vice Mayor Jamie Aldama. “Public safety has always been a priority of mine and the entire city. I look forward to helping shape policy that will create an impact nationwide, but especially in our city.”
As a member of NLC’s PSCP committee, Vice Mayor Aldama will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s municipalities before Congress, with the administration and at home.
“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are a key tool for gathering insights directly from the communities that our members serve,” said NLC President, Mayor Vince Williams of Union City, Georgia. “I am excited to have Vice Mayor Aldama serve on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee and look forward to working with him to fulfill the promise of America’s cities, towns and villages.”
The full leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair Joel Navarro, Councilmember of Tempe, AZ, Vice Chair Brian Kazy, Councilmember of Cleveland, OH, and Vice Chair Willie Lightfoot, Council Vice President of Rochester, NY.

Councilmember Aldama selected to serve as Glendale's Vice Mayor
The Glendale City Council has selected Councilmember Jamie Aldama to serve as Glendale's Vice Mayor for the year 2022. Councilmember Aldama was elected to the council and sworn in as the city's Ocotillo District Councilmember in December 2014.
As Vice Mayor, Mr. Aldama will be responsible for performing the duties of Glendale's Mayor during the Mayor's absence. He will serve in this position for one year.
"Jamie has demonstrated his passion for serving citizens throughout his tenure on this Council," said Mayor Jerry Weiers.
"I am honored to be elected as Vice Mayor of the city of Glendale," says Vice Mayor Jamie Aldama. "I am committed to serving all of the residents of Glendale with the same energy, engagement and dedication that I serve the Ocotillo District with."
The new Vice Mayor is actively involved in many community and leadership organizations. He is a member of the National League of Cities (NLC) Public Safety & Crime Prevention Committee, Hispanic Elected Local Officials (HELO) and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). Mr. Aldama also serves on the West Valley Foundation Board of Directors. Previously he served as Chair of the Glendale Government Services Committee, Vice-Chairman for the Glendale Planning and Zoning Commission, Vice-Chairman of the Glendale Parks and Recreation Commission, member of the Mayor's Water and Sewer Task Force and member of the NLC Community & Economic Development Committee.
Councilmember Aldama has deep roots in the community he serves. He is a lifelong, 4th Generation resident of Glendale, growing up and living in the Ocotillo District for most of his life. He and his wife Monica have been married for over 30 years, have three grown children and five grandchildren.
