WASHINGTON, D.C.—On May 24, U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08)’s Save Our Gas Stoves Act to block the U.S. Department of Energy from implementing its proposed efficiency standard for gas cooking products passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee with bipartisan support.

Watch her full remarks here.

“I am proud that the Save Our Gas Stoves Act has passed out of the full Energy and Commerce Committee with bipartisan support,” said Congresswoman Lesko. “100 percent of the currently available free-standing gas stoves and 96 percent of gas cooktops will not meet the new standards proposed by the Biden Administration’s Department of Energy. This is unacceptable. I am grateful for my colleagues’ support on this important legislation to block the Department of Energy’s extreme attack on consumer choice, and I expect the bill to come up for a vote on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives soon.”

This legislation amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to prevent the Secretary of Energy from implementing energy conservation standards if the standards result in the unavailability of a product on account of the type of fuel the product uses. The bill also prohibits the Department of Energy from finalizing and implementing the February 1, 2023, proposed energy efficiency standard for gas cooking products.
