House Speaker Steve Montenegro has responded to Governor Katie Hobbs' recent announcement regarding the suspension of action on bills. Montenegro accused Hobbs of "political blackmail" following her decision, stating that it stemmed from her dissatisfaction with not receiving what he described as a "blank check."

Montenegro criticized Hobbs for expanding the DDD program without securing legislative approval or funding. He claimed this action created a crisis and argued that the Legislature is responsibly funding services while implementing measures to prevent program collapse.

"Let’s be clear: House Republicans are already advancing legislation to fully fund the DDD program," Montenegro said. He contended that Hobbs' demands lack oversight, reforms, and accountability, which he believes are necessary solutions.

Montenegro urged Governor Hobbs to cease partisan press releases and threats, suggesting she should engage in discussions. He emphasized that until such actions are taken, she is engaging in political games at the expense of Arizonans awaiting her leadership.

Steve Montenegro serves as the Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives and represents Legislative District 29, covering areas including Goodyear and Surprise.
