Arizona State Sen. Janae Shamp (R-Surprise) said that Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) taking credit for creating “81,800 new jobs” is “disingenuous.”

“It is disingenuous for Katie Hobbs to take credit for the economic engine that Republicans and then Governor Ducey built, while Democrats like Katie Hobbs voted NO,” Shamp told NW Valley Times. “But if she wants to own 2023 statistics as her own, she should claim credit for fentanyl-related deaths, because she has actively thwarted our efforts to end those, and she has personally worked to keep our borders open and the violence and drugs flowing freely.”

Shamp was responding to a social media post by Hobbs, who wrote, “We’ve created 81,800 new jobs in the first year of my administration. By investing in our workers and attracting and building world-class businesses, we are growing our economy right here in Arizona.”

Hobbs’ comments come as the majority of Arizona voters say the “American Dream” is out of reach.

18% of Arizona voters believe the American Dream is “still attainable,” according to a recent poll conducted for the League of American Voters (LAW). 78% of Arizona voters believe the American Dream is “out of reach.”

“That level of despondency, in any region of America, should give great pause and compel introspection about what afflicts our society -- and what remedies can work as solutions,” said LAW president Steve Cortes. “But this kind of pervasive hopelessness in Arizona stings particularly bitterly.”

Shamp was first elected to represent Arizona’s 29th Legislative District in Nov. 2022. She defeated Democrat David Raymer, winning 59 percent to Raymer’s 41 percent.

A resident of Surprise, Shamp graduated cum laude from Arizona State University and received her nursing degree, also graduating cum laude, from Grand Canyon University.

She is an operating room nurse, and said she was fired from her nursing position for refusing to take the “COVID” MRNA injection.

Arizona’s 29th Legislative District is entirely located within Maricopa County, west and northwest of Phoenix. The district stretches from Litchfield Park in the south to north of Morristown in the north, stopping to the east of Wickenburg. It includes Luke Air Force Base.
