U.S. Congressional candidate Blake Masters (R-AZ-8) said a new poll saying the majority of Arizona voters think the federal government is weak at border security shows that Arizonans think Biden has failed on this issue.

“72% of Arizonans know that Biden has failed us at the border,” Masters told NW Valley Times. “Maybe the other 28% enjoy the influx of millions of illegals that Joe Biden has let in, who knows?”

“What we do know is: border security is national security,” Masters said. “And when Trump is back in the White House and when I’m in Congress, priority number one is to seal up the border and deport illegal aliens.”

72% of Arizona voters think the federal government is weak at securing the U.S. borders, according to the poll of Arizona voters released last week by the League of American Workers (LAW). 52% of voters said the federal government’s job performance on the border is “very weak," while only 24% of voters said the government’s performance on the border is “somewhat” or “very” strong. 

Exactly half of Democrats rated the federal government’s border performance as weak. 70% of Independents and 95% of Republicans responded the same.

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) has reported 300,063 illegal alien apprehensions in Arizona’s Tucson Sector thus far in Fiscal Year 2024.

There have been 9,411,440 nationwide illegal alien encounters since FY2021, with 7,740,747 of those occurring in the southwest during that same period.

President Joe Biden (D) took office on January 20, 2021, the same day he signed a "Proclamation on the Termination Of Emergency With Respect To The Southern Border Of The United States And Redirection Of Funds Diverted To Border Wall Construction." This order said the Trump Administration's declaration of of a national emergency at the southern border was "unwarranted" and paused all funds for the construction of the U.S-Mexico border wall begun under President Trump.

John Modlin, the U.S. Border Patrol’s chief agent in the Tucson Sector, reported last week that there were 9,000 illegal alien apprehensions in the sector, as well as 23 human smuggling events.

Modlin also reported the arrest last week of an illegal alien child molester who had previously been arrested in California and deported, and the discovery of a U.S. citizen near Tucson smuggling four illegal aliens in his car. 

The poll results released by LAW also found that Trump leads Biden by four points among Arizona voters in the 2024 race for the White House.

The survey was conducted among 600 likely Arizona voters on March 14-17, 2024 by North Star Public Opinion Research.

Masters is one of four candidates currently running in the Republican primary to represent the 8th Congressional District. The district is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko (R), who announced last year that she will be retiring at the end of the current term.
