Arizona Sen. Janae Shamp criticized the Biden administration for prioritizing resources for transporting illegal immigrants over aiding Americans facing disasters, calling it a failure to support those in need. Her remarks made in response to ongoing delays in FEMA relief for Hurricane Helene victims, highlighted frustrations with unmet government promises and insufficient recovery efforts.
“Criminals from foreign countries are flown all over America, but God forbid our current administration actually helps these people who have suffered great tragedy,” Sen. Shamp wrote in a Nov. 30 social media post on X.
Shamp made her comment in response to a post by Wall Street Apes with an interview with a North Carolina woman saying that funding from FEMA to the victims of Hurricane Helene still has not been paid out which is disrupting recovery efforts.
“It hurts to know that people's got family, that they haven't a clue where they're even at, and bodies that can't even be identified. But no, none of this is making the news” the woman says.
According to the woman, contractors hired for debris removal and rebuilding efforts reportedly still haven’t been paid for their work.
“Those guys worked relentlessly in here, grabbing debris. And these guys aren't coming back in here because the government hasn't paid the contract that they signed with them,” the woman says. “It is heartbreaking that we're not getting the attention.”
She also accused officials of staging photo opportunities during initial relief operations, only to leave the area without delivering lasting support.
“I think they must have got back on the helicopter and left with them because we've not seen them since,” the woman says. “It's time our government made good on what they promised. And it is time for them to pay the bills that they promised to pay for these people and let's get them back in here to work.”
According to Austin News, testimony from former Border Patrol Chief Aaron Heitke before Congress revealed that the Biden-Harris administration spent approximately $150,000 per flight to transport illegal immigrants from San Diego to Texas, a strategy he criticized as a short-term measure to mitigate the border crisis.
In his testimony, Heitke highlighted the administration’s efforts to conceal the escalating security threats and the surge in drug trafficking, which has led to San Diego accounting for the majority of the nation's fentanyl and methamphetamine seizures. Heitke reported a significant increase in arrests of individuals with terrorist ties, rising from 10–15 annually to over 100 in 2022, with continued growth in 2023 and 2024, and expressed frustration over directives barring him from publicly sharing these figures.
Elected in 2022, Senator Janae Shamp is a Republican member of the Arizona State Senate, representing District 29. A former operating room nurse, she emphasizes public health and has been involved in legislation that aims to improve Arizona's medical infrastructure and support for families.
Shamp is a strong supporter of conservative values, including limited government and individual liberties. A resident of Surprise, she graduated cum laude from Arizona State University and received her nursing degree, also graduating cum laude, from Grand Canyon University.
