Senate Bill 1404 sponsored by Arizona State Senator Janae Shamp, was signed into law on April 1, 2024.

The bill will require convicted sex offenders with legal custody of a child to “provide name and enrollment information on the child.” It will also expand the community notifications of sex offenders to include level-one offenders, who were “convicted of a dangerous crime against children.”

The changes also require convicted sex offenders with custody of a child to inform the local Sheriff within 72 hours of making changes to their child’s enrollment.

Shamp represents Legislative District 29 in Arizona. She was elected to the state senate in 2023.

Shamp earned her Bachelor’s in Molecular Biosciences & Biotechnology from Arizona State University and her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Grand Canyon University. She is a Registered Nurse in the state of Arizona. She lives in Surprise, Arizona with her husband.
