PEORIA, Ariz. (May 6, 2024) – The City of Peoria has announced that the total property tax rate for fiscal year 2025 is proposed to remain the same as the previous year at $1.44/$100 of assessed value. This rate comprises a primary rate of $0.29/$100 of assessed value and a secondary rate of $1.15/$100 of assessed value.

City officials emphasized that any changes in individual tax bills are a result of assessed valuation changes in properties, clarifying that "The City Council only sets the property tax rate, while property assessment/valuations are prepared by the County Assessor."

In compliance with state law, a Truth in Taxation notice has been issued, indicating the city's intention to raise its primary property taxes over the previous year's level. The proposed increase amounts to $245,629 or 4.20 percent. Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes owed on a $100,000 home would have been $27.83, while with the increase, it would be $29.00.

All interested citizens are invited to attend a public hearing on the tax increase scheduled for May 28, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Peoria City Council Chamber. The announcement also mentions that the same Truth in Taxation notice will be published in local newspapers to meet the requirements for public notification under state law.
