Moms for Liberty has endorsed Jeff Tobey in his race for a seat on the Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) Governing Board. Early voting is currently underway for the November 5 general election.
On his campaign website, Tobey reveals his main objectives for his term as a member of the PUSD Governing Board, including school safety and security, improving student proficiency in both academics and practical skills, balancing the budget, and encouraging parental involvement in their children's education.
In a May 2024 opinion piece for the Arizona Daily Independent, Tobey criticized the PUSD Governing Board for taking actions to silence constituents who were critical of the Board.
"The PUSD board’s actions not only have a chilling effect on individuals who wish to speak publicly on matters concerning the district, they outright violate the constitutional rights of these constituents, eroding public trust in the board’s governance," Tobey wrote. "Public comment sessions are designed to be a forum for community members to express their views and hold public officials accountable. When the board selectively silences critical voices, it undermines this democratic process and discourages public participation."
As he shares in his Governing Board application, Tobey graduated magna cum laude from ASU with a B.A. in communications. He has worked in public safety since 2004 and has received numerous awards and recognitions, and he is very active in the community. He and his wife have four children.
Per the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board's website, the Board comprises five members. Terms are four years and staggered, with elections being held every two years.
Moms for Liberty is a parental-rights-in-education advocacy group founded by Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich, two former school board members. According to their website, "Moms for Liberty is dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government."
