The College Board has announced that three high schools within the Glendale Union High School District have been included in the 2024 Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll. This recognition is awarded to schools with AP programs that deliver positive results for students while also expanding access.

Schools are evaluated annually for this honor based on their commitment to fostering a college-going culture, offering opportunities for students to earn college credit, and enhancing college readiness. Sunnyslope High School received Silver status, while Thunderbird High School and Washington High School were awarded Bronze status.

"AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages," stated Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. "The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP."

The Advanced Placement Program by College Board allows students to undertake college-level studies in high school with the chance to earn both college credit and advanced placement. The program offers courses in 38 subjects, each concluding with a rigorous exam designed to teach critical thinking, solid argument construction, and multiple perspectives—skills essential for success in higher education.

For the academic year 2023-2024, students from GUHSD collectively earned 10,968 college credits through their participation in the AP program.
