Apollo High honors outstanding contributors with Achievement Above All awards

On January 15, the Governing Board of Apollo High School recognized five individuals and groups for their dedication and excellence in the school community. These honorees received the Achievement Above All recognition, which is the highest honor awarded to a teacher, support staff employee, student, student group, and school volunteer.

Laura Richards was honored as the Teacher Recipient. She is known for her dedication as an educator and leader at Apollo High School. Ms. Richards teaches Spanish and guides Link Crew students while supporting various school activities. Her teaching style is described as engaging and passionate with a deep knowledge of Spanish culture. Senior Zach Runnels commented, “Ms. Richards brings a charming humanity and knowledgeable energy to everything she does.” Department Chair Emily Berger added, “Laura’s efforts leading the Apollo LINK Crew have made our campus culture better for all.”

The Student Recipient was Asha Obsiye. During her time at Apollo High School, Asha has been actively involved in Key Club, National Honor Society, and Hospitality programs. As president of Key Club and former Lt. Governor for the Southwest District Key Club Board, she has contributed over 300 community service hours. Classmate Krystal Claudo called her “a charismatic leader” who inspires those around her.

The Culinary Arts Team received recognition as the Student Group Recipient under Chef Mr. Coloma's guidance. They have achieved success in cooking competitions at state and national levels while developing discipline, creativity, and teamwork skills.

Auggie Lopez was named Support Staff Recipient for his commitment to Apollo High School over more than a decade of service from night custodian to Foreman. Chef Coloma noted that “Auggie is one of those people who always comes through.”

Volunteer Cindy Chrisman was recognized for nearly ten years of service at Apollo High School's band and sports programs by assisting with uniforms among other tasks. Band Director Gabe Lugo shared that Cindy has been essential to their success.

These honorees embody excellence at Apollo High School through teaching leadership support or volunteerism making it a better place overall.
