Moms for Liberty has endorsed Mary Jane Ziola in her race for a seat on the Dysart Unified School District (Dysart USD) Governing Board. Early voting began on October 9 and extends through November 1 for the November 5 general election.
In an August 27 post on her campaign's Facebook page, Ziola said a rigorous curriculum that focuses on reading, writing, math, science, history, and civics should be a priority, explaining that this curriculum will give students a solid foundation for future growth and success.
She also believes that schools should not traffic in ideologies that run contrary to families' moral or religious beliefs, and that public schools can and should provide students with a quality education in a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, Ziola writes that she is committed to ensuring that taxpayers' money is spent wisely and in ways that will optimally benefit students.
Ziola studied business at Bellevue College and spent 40 years as an administrative assistant in the marketing and operating Departments at Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska. After retiring in 2016, she moved to Arizona, and in her retirement, she "[has] the time, energy, and dedication to fully commit to serving on the School Board."
Ziola also volunteered as a kindergarten teacher's aide at Thompson Ranch Elementary School, as well as mentored in partnership with a Girl's Club. She also volunteered at the West Valley Food Bank and community pregnancy centers.
Per the Dysart Unified School District Governing Board's website, the Board comprises five members. Terms are four years and staggered so that two or three members are elected in alternate election years.
Moms for Liberty is a parental-rights-in-education advocacy group founded by Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich, two former school board members. According to their website, "Moms for Liberty is dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government."
