John Moore and Ron Blue, both founders of faith-based financial service organizations, shared their experiences and insights at the T.W. Lewis Speaker Series held at Grand Canyon University's Colangelo College of Business. The event focused on integrating a biblical worldview into financial management.
Moore recounted a pivotal moment early in his career when an employee questioned his behavior, prompting him to reflect on how his actions aligned with Christian values. He emphasized to students that "people always watch what you’re doing and expect you to be different."
Ron Blue, who began biblically based financial planning in 1979 and founded Kingdom Advisors, outlined five key habits for managing finances: spending less than one earns, avoiding debt, building liquidity, setting long-term goals, and giving generously. He shared an anecdote about presenting these principles before a U.S. Senate subcommittee and receiving positive feedback from then-chair Christopher Dodd.
Both speakers discussed the role of faith in their careers. Moore spoke about his transition from flying fighter jets to financial planning after feeling called by God. Blue described his spiritual journey following his wife's illness and how it influenced his professional path.
The session also highlighted acts of generosity during the holiday season. Moore mentioned his wife Connie's "Power of the $5 tip" concept and shared stories of impactful giving. Blue recounted an experience at Chick-fil-A where he gave a substantial tip to a server who used it to help someone in need.
Moore encouraged students interested in faith-based finance careers to consider Christian Financial Advisors programs and recommended Larry Burkett’s book "Business by the Book" as essential reading for understanding biblical principles in business.
The discussion was moderated by John Kaites, Dean of the Colangelo College of Business.
