Grand Canyon University President Brian Mueller addressed the university community during the first Chapel of the 2025 spring semester at Global Credit Union Arena. He emphasized that "God wants collision to create change" and highlighted the church's role in making the world a better place.

Mueller discussed how collisions, whether in football or global empires, are inevitable. He stated, “Jesus came into the world and brought heaven to earth in a way that He wanted that collision to create change.” According to Mueller, Jesus expects the church to lead in improving the world.

Referencing the Sermon on the Mount, Mueller explained it as a blueprint for this leadership. “He gave us a blueprint, He gave us the Sermon on the Mount," he said. This sermon represents new leadership and requirements under God's regime.

Mueller posed questions about GCU's purpose: “Why did God give us all this at Grand Canyon University? Are we doing the right things with it? Are we doing the things God wants us to do with it?” He linked these questions to both biblical texts and modern-day challenges.

Collisions between different ideologies were further illustrated through historical examples like those from 1776 and 1917. These led to significant political shifts and struggles over ideas of governance. More extreme events like Nazi Germany’s actions and Rwanda's genocide were also mentioned as outcomes of exclusionary beliefs.

The story from Acts 16:16-34 was used by Mueller to illustrate how actions during collisions can foster change. The Apostle Paul's encounter with Jesus is described as transformative not only for Paul but also for those he interacted with, such as a Roman jailer.

GCU's impact on its community was another focus point for Mueller. He noted progress within areas around GCU previously known for issues like prostitution and violence. The Renewal at 27th Ave. Celebration on February 11 will highlight these efforts, showcasing improvements made through GCU’s Five-Point Plan.

Mueller concluded by expressing optimism about what communities can achieve when they embrace diversity and work together towards common goals.

The next Chapel speaker will be Dr. Tim Griffin, university pastor, scheduled for January 13 at Global Credit Union Arena.
