Dan Steffen, lead pastor of Pure Heart Church, addressed Grand Canyon University students at a recent Chapel service. He warned against the self-centered nature of today's society and encouraged generosity without seeking recognition. Steffen referenced Matthew 6:1-4, which advises giving to others without drawing attention to oneself.
During the event, GCU President Brian Mueller introduced a trailer for the upcoming movie "The Last Supper," urging students to watch it. The film will premiere on March 14 in 1,200 theaters nationwide, including 22 in Phoenix. It was produced in collaboration with Canyon Productions CEO Shawn Boskie, Pinnacle Peak Pictures, and Great American Pure Flix.
Steffen praised GCU's community efforts and quoted Mother Teresa: “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.” He expressed his wishes for his children to embrace faith and generosity.
He shared a personal story about receiving a $1 million donation with the condition that it remain anonymous. This experience reinforced the joy found in discreet generosity. The donor later expressed gratitude for keeping their identity secret, emphasizing the spiritual fulfillment it brought.
The Chapel service included performances by Isabella Gomes and the GCU Worship Team. Steffen concluded by highlighting the importance of genuine acts of kindness over public acknowledgment.
The next Chapel speaker will be Chris Brown from North Coast Church on March 17 at Global Credit Union Arena.
