Chloe Mohatt, a senior business management major at Grand Canyon University (GCU), has ventured into the coffee business with her startup, Easy Soul Café. Initially hesitant to deviate from a corporate career path, Mohatt was encouraged by GCU professor Robert Vera to pursue this entrepreneurial endeavor. The inspiration for the café stems from a desire to honor a friend who died by suicide and to support college ministries.

“GCU has been the biggest blessing ever and has brought me so many amazing opportunities in the community,” Mohatt stated during a Marketplace event in February where her products sold out quickly.

The name "Easy Soul" reflects her friend's personality as a barista. “That’s what I want Easy Soul to be built on, is just human connection and love for others,” she said. She also aims to address issues of depression and suicide that have affected her hometown of Kalispell, Montana.

“My town actually went through a very tragic suicide epidemic where we had double digit suicides happen within 1 ½ years,” Mohatt explained. She plans to donate 10-20% of Easy Soul's proceeds to college ministry efforts against suicide and depression.

Despite initial challenges with equipment, Mohatt's venture has become more profitable over time. She continues developing unique syrup flavors for her drinks and seeks expansion opportunities beyond campus events.

Mohatt acknowledges the competitive nature of the coffee industry but remains committed with support from friends who assist at events. “Luckily the Lord always provides, and I have help and people who are willing to come and help Easy Soul keep going,” she noted.
