Congressman Abraham J. Hamadeh has addressed a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, advocating for the Phoenix Police Department against what he describes as political weaponization by the Biden Administration's Department of Justice (DOJ). Congressman Hamadeh calls for the rescission of a DOJ report on the department.
Recently, Congressman Hamadeh participated in an Air Support Mission with members of the Phoenix Police Department. He observed their operations and commended their commitment to duty and integrity.
In his letter, Congressman Hamadeh criticizes the DOJ’s "pattern or practice" report on the Phoenix Police Department as a "desperate witch hunt." He claims it undermines legitimate police work and puts both officers and civilians at risk. He asserts that despite cooperation from officers, including opening records and participating in interviews, they faced mischaracterized testimony and inaccuracies in the final report.
Hamadeh further argues that allegations against Phoenix Police officers violating constitutional standards during unrest after a Trump rally were unfounded. He points out that the Ninth Circuit had affirmed the lawfulness of their actions, accusing the DOJ of ignoring court-backed facts in favor of narratives supporting a political agenda.
He contends that this approach by the DOJ has sown distrust, diverted resources from public safety, and discouraged officers when they are needed most in Arizona communities.
Congressman Hamadeh concludes that rescinding the DOJ’s report would demonstrate that political interference is unwelcome in law enforcement and reinforce America First principles under what he refers to as governance by the Trump administration.
