Enthusiasm is growing for the Congressional Fitness Challenge proposed in a recent opinion piece by Congressman Abe Hamadeh and NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre published on OutKick. The challenge seeks to improve youth physical fitness nationwide.
Former NFL player Antonio Brown expressed support on social media, stating, "Love this! So important for our Youth," in response to Hamadeh’s announcement.
Congressman Hamadeh introduced H.Con.Res.20 this week. The resolution seeks to create a voluntary program for children aged 6-17 across various educational settings. The initiative is timely as childhood obesity has tripled since the 1970s and health issues prevent 77% of young Americans from military service without a waiver.
The Congressional Fitness Challenge includes five exams: the 1-Mile Run/Walk, Pull-Ups/Flexed Arm Hang, Curl-Ups or Sit-Ups, Shuttle Run, and Sit-and-Reach. Participants can earn Gold, Silver, or Bronze recognition based on performance.
Hamadeh and Favre emphasized a shared concern about youth fitness in their op-ed, stating, "America's youth are facing a silent crisis of physical fitness. Our message is simple: reviving physical excellence among America's youth will build a stronger nation."
Hamadeh aims to collaborate with parents, experts, and various congressional committees to pass this legislation in both the House and Senate. The program allows Members of Congress to use their office to promote and recognize achievements in their districts.
Congressman Hamadeh and Brett Favre urge bipartisan collaboration to enhance youth fitness and strengthen the nation's future.
