DEER VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT: Supporting Students During Summer Break

Deer Valley Unified School District recently issued the following announcement.

Dear DVUSD Parents and Guardians,

We are grateful for your patience with Home Learning, for your support with Google Classroom and Canvas, for your encouragement with your child for virtual class meetings, and most importantly for your belief that during the COVID-19 school closure children could still learn and thrive. You have our utmost respect and heartfelt appreciation for helping us teach your child during the last quarter of the 2019-20 school year. Thank you!

When we begin the summer break, we want to provide access to engaging mathematics and reading resources that you can use as we all prepare to support student learning in the 2020-21 school year. We know that preliminary COVID-19 learning slide estimates suggest students will return in fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year. However, in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains, returning with less than 50% of the learning gains and in some grades, nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions.*

The resources below are recommendations to combat the summer learning slide. If your child’s teacher has made other suggestions, please follow their guidance along with these resources.
