City of Tucson issued the following announcement on July 22.
Tucson's Mayor and Council passed the Community Safety Pilot Program on June 30, 2020, with the purpose of serving the community through a Housing First framework. Housing First is an approach prioritizing permanent housing for people experiencing homelessness, with the belief that people need basic necessities, like food and a place to live, before attending to other needs. As part of the Community Safety Program, the Housing First Program director will support relevant City departments with a Housing First approach to provide safety and mental health services to Tucson residents. This newly created position will collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic plan to end chronic homelessness, including specific targets and timelines. Ideal candidates will have five or more years of experience operating housing programs focused primarily on the provision of housing and shelter based in the Housing First and Harm Reduction models. Education qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, sociology, public administration, or a related degree. Applications for this position are open until filled, with the first review date the week of Monday, Aug. 9. A tentative date to begin the selection process is set for the week of Monday, Aug. 23.
