Buckeye welcomes clean energy leader, KORE Power

Announcement

City of Buckeye issued the following announcement on July 29.

The leading U.S. based developer of battery cell technology for the clean energy industry, KORE Power, Inc., selected the city of Buckeye as the location for their new lithium-ion battery storage manufacturing facility.

The one-million square foot facility, located near State Route 85 and Baseline Road, will support up to 12 gigawatt hours (GWh) of battery cell production for lithium-ion battery cells. These cells are critical to the future of power grids, electric vehicles and other clean energy technologies.

“Arizona is thrilled to be selected as the home of the country’s first U.S.-owned lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility,” said Governor Doug Ducey. “Not only will this facility create thousands of new jobs, it will position Arizona as an anchor in the global battery manufacturing supply chain. We’re grateful to CEO Lindsay Gorrill and the entire KORE Power team for choosing our state. We look forward to partnering in your success for many years to come to further sustainability here in Arizona around the world.”

"KORE Power has spent the last two years evaluating sites across the country. We needed a location for the KOREPlex that had a track record of supporting clean energy technology," said Lindsay Gorrill, KORE Power CEO. "The city of Buckeye offers proximity to complementary industries, workforce and logistics capacity, and a pro-business environment."

Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn said, “KORE Power’s investment in Buckeye to produce clean, renewable energy aligns with the City Council’s sustainability goals, and our goal for significant employment opportunities for our residents,” Orsborn continued, “This project is not just a win for Buckeye, but for the West Valley, the State of Arizona and the clean energy industry.”

KORE Power anticipates breaking ground by the end of this year, with operations starting in the second quarter of 2023. They anticipate a capital investment in the city of nearly $1 billion. The facility will create more than 3,000 jobs, becoming Buckeye’s largest employer.
