U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) reacted to a new NBC News poll showing the majority of respondents saying that "Joe Biden should not run for president."
"70 percent of Americans don’t think President Biden should be running again," tweeted Lesko. "Americans KNOW he’s a total failure. Four more years of President Biden would send our nation down the tubes!"
Lesko's tweet was in response to a Washington Times story about the NBC News poll, which was conducted April 14-18, 2023. Of the 70 percent of respondents who said Biden should not run for president, 48 percent said his age was a "major reason" and 21 percent said it was a "minor reason."
Biden officially announced his re-election campaign on April 25, 2023. The NBC News poll found that 41 percent of respondents approve of the job Biden is doing as president, while 54 percent of respondents disapprove.
Lesko, 64, has represented Arizona's 8th congressional district since 2018. She defeated Democrat Hiral Tipirneni in a special election to replace U.S. Rep. Trent Franks (R), receiving 52.61% of the vote to Tipirneni's 47.39%.
A native of Sheboygan, Wisc., Lesko was previously a member of the Arizona Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and moved to Arizona and the 1980s.
The 8th congressional district is located in the West Valley region of the Phoenix metropolitan area and includes the cities of Glendale, Surprise, Sun City, Peoria, and a portion of western Phoenix.
