Arizona State Sen. Anthony Kern (R-27 ) criticized Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) after Hobbs announced an executive order that takes away the power of county prosecutors to handle state abortion laws and gives that power to Attorney General Kris Mayes (D-Ariz.)

"Pandering to her base," tweeted Kern. "Queen Hobbs overstepped (again), as most Marxists often do."

"She is only the Executive," said Kern. "The Legislature makes the law. The Queen doesn't. Lawyer up."

The Arizona Republic reported, "An executive order Hobbs signed June 22 gives state Attorney General Kris Mayes the power to handle any attempted county prosecution under state abortion laws, bans state agencies from assisting investigations for alleged violations in other states and bans extradition of people accused of violating other states' abortion laws."

Under this executive order, tweeted Arizona Public Media, "only Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, will be able to oversee abortion-related prosecutions."

A native of Minnesota, Kern was elected to represent Arizona's 27th State Senate District in the Nov. 2022 election. He defeated Brittani Barraza (D), winning 55 percent to Barraza's 45 percent.

Kern previously represented Arizona's District 20 in the Arizona State House of Representatives from 2015 until 2021.

He attended Western International University and previously worked as a Code Enforcement Officer for the El Mirage Police Department.
