With bipartisan support, the Arizona House of Representatives has approved HB2484, a bill sponsored by State Representative Beverly Pingerelli. The legislation aims to reduce classroom distractions caused by excessive cellphone use and social media access during school hours.

Representative Pingerelli emphasized the importance of this measure, stating, "Teachers shouldn’t have to fight a losing battle against smartphones. This bill hands them the tools to keep kids locked in on what matters—building a future, not chasing likes. I’m proud to see lawmakers from both sides agree: education beats distraction every time."

The bill mandates that school districts and charter schools implement policies ensuring devices are kept away during instructional hours, with exceptions for emergencies or teacher-approved academic tasks.

"We’re not talking about taking phones away from kids altogether," Pingerelli added. "We’re talking about putting common sense back in the classroom. Teachers shouldn’t have to compete with TikTok, and parents shouldn’t have to wonder if their kids are learning or just scrolling."

House Republicans are spearheading efforts to enhance Arizona’s educational environment by minimizing unnecessary distractions. The bill will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.

Beverly Pingerelli represents Legislative District 28 in Peoria, Sun City, Sun City West, and Phoenix as a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives.
