On Saturday, December 16, 2023, the streets of downtown Tucson will be filled with excitement as the 29th Annual Downtown Parade of Lights takes place. However, this festive event will also cause some road closures and traffic delays in the area.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., several streets will be closed to motorists to accommodate the parade. These closures include Stone Avenue at 17th Street, Ochoa Street/12th Street, and Sixth Avenue from Stone Avenue to 13th Street. In addition, side streets such as 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th Streets from Sixth Avenue to Fourth Avenue will also be closed for staging purposes.
All roadways are expected to reopen by approximately 8:30 p.m. on the same evening, allowing traffic to flow normally once again. However, during this time, motorists should anticipate traffic delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
To ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, the City of Tucson advises caution when driving, bicycling, or walking in the area. It is important to watch for event participants, obey all traffic control measures, and follow detour signs and instructions from personnel providing traffic control.
