Colangelo Servant Leadership recipients generate tears, gratitude

The fourth annual Colangelo Servant Leadership Awards ceremony at Grand Canyon University's Havoc House celebrated the achievements of individuals who embody the ideals of servant leadership. Brandy Labinjo, Karrin Taylor Robson, Mike Greenawalt, and Bill McKee were honored for their dedication to making a positive impact in their communities.

Brandy Labinjo, a leader at APS, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, "I'm thankful to the state of Arizona for opening my eyes on the work that needs to be done here in Arizona to make things better in underserved communities."

Karrin Taylor Robson, founder and president of Arizona Strategies, shared a story highlighting Jerry Colangelo's commitment to ethics, recalling a lesson learned early in her career. She emphasized the importance of honesty and fairness in business dealings.

Mike Greenawalt, CEO of Rosendin Electric, reflected on his journey from an apprentice electrician to a successful leader, attributing his success to the opportunities provided by GCU. Greenawalt expressed his appreciation for the chance to give back and make a difference in the lives of young individuals.

Bill McKee, a scholar-in-residence at Valley Presbyterian Church and executive-in-residence at GCU, emphasized the importance of equipping students with the skills and values necessary to succeed in the business world. McKee highlighted the positive impact of education and mentorship on future generations.

Jerry Colangelo, a prominent figure in the sports business world, emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals who combine success with compassion. He stated, "It’s one thing to be successful. It’s another thing to be caring."

GCU President Brian Mueller commended Colangelo for setting an example for students and emphasized the importance of honoring individuals who serve as role models for the community.

The Colangelo Servant Leadership Awards ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of the recipients but also highlighted the significance of selfless leadership and community service.
