Subject.com CEO Michael Vilardo delivered a talk on "Digital Learning is the Future" during the TEDxGCU 2025 event themed "Loose Threads" at the Global Credit Union Arena. The event provided a platform for speakers to discuss how they overcame challenges and turned them into opportunities for positive change. Vilardo highlighted the popularity of digital platforms like Netflix and TikTok among students and emphasized the need for the educational system to advance digitally.

Vilardo argued, “I think the educational system is the most important part of our society,” while advocating for video-based learning as a tool to complement traditional education methods. He shared that, according to a survey, "eighty-five percent of students prefer watching videos over personal lectures." Vilardo views Subject.com as "the Netflix of education" and advocates support for teachers with video teaching tools that can reduce their workload significantly.

Benjamin Gomez, TEDxGCU's president, explained that the "Loose Threads" theme was chosen to allow speakers to present diverse interpretations based on their personal experiences. Gomez stated, "We wanted a theme that all speakers could draw different interpretations on, relating to their own individual experiences."

During the event, various speakers presented their unique viewpoints. Peyton Christenson delved into "The Lost Art of Letter Writing," discussing the mental health benefits and sensory experiences of handwritten letters, though acknowledging digital communication's permanence. Trevor Cowley's presentation, "Becoming Remarkable: Weaving a New Life," encouraged the audience to break routines and embrace significant life changes.

Madison Paige addressed entrepreneurial burnout in her speech, "Why Entrepreneurs Burn Out and How to Escape It," urging listeners to find a balance in life. Paige remarked, “You are the loose thread to change the narrative."

Additional talks included Brian Gubernick's "Time is Finite," Nicole Christie's "Transmitting Trauma to Reclaim Yourself and Your Purpose," Lydia Walker's "Be Fully Known, Be Fully Loved," and Dr. Colleen Kelley's "Molecular Literacy for Ages 8 to 108." Each speaker shared personal stories, urging the audience to tackle life's challenges and pursue growth.

The TEDxGCU event was organized and executed by GCU students, with the theme allowing each speaker to contribute a rich tapestry of insights and experiences.
