The August issue of GCU Magazine, released today, highlights Grand Canyon University's (GCU) efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into its educational framework. The university is leveraging AI technology to enhance student learning, with initiatives such as the science and health care chatbot Mira and the math chatbot Isaac.
Colleges across GCU have been utilizing AI to develop effective teaching methods. One faculty member described AI as "the greatest productivity and creative tool known to man." These AI chatbots are designed to tutor students, while faculty members have used AI for creating quizzes and brainstorming ideas. Since 2021, faculty have also presented their advancements in AI at 74 conferences and training sessions.
The magazine also covers other aspects of campus life, including the popularity of skateboards and scooters among students, the 50th anniversary of Ethington Theatre, and a notable year for GCU Athletics in 2023-24. Additionally, the publication reconnects with nearly a dozen former student body leaders to update readers on their current endeavors.
As GCU celebrates its 75th anniversary, the magazine features stories from two alumni who have become employees at the university. They reflect on GCU's growth from a small college to the largest Christian university in the United States.
