Grand Canyon University hosted its annual Missions Fair on Monday, an event that forms a central part of GCU Missions Week. The fair, held on the Promenade, brought together 30 missional organizations aiming to connect with students and share opportunities for global service.
Mya Alexander, a senior at GCU, emphasized the importance of responding to a higher calling: “When the Lord is calling, you cannot say no.” This sentiment was echoed by Njenga Maina, Global Outreach Program Manager at GCU. He stated, "Becoming global citizens is one of the values of GCU," highlighting that students can engage in mission work even before graduation.
The fair showcased missions ranging from short-term trips to longer commitments, all rooted in spreading the gospel. Sophomore Grace Kellenbarger expressed the value of cross-cultural experiences: “It really broadens their horizons and helps understand how the world works.”
Kellenbarger found her niche with the English Language Institute of China (ELIC), which trains individuals to become English teachers abroad. Mya Alexander also shared her journey with ELIC and her plans to teach in Thailand after graduation.
Elle Mowbray, head student leader of the Missions team, underscored the importance of connecting students with these organizations: “We try to invite all missional organizations so students get a chance to talk to them face-to-face.”
The event continued into the evening at Antelope Gymnasium and featured organizations such as Younglife, Cadence International, Students International, Well Child International, and Orchard Africa.
Maina reflected on the broader mission: “As Christians, we start from a place of obedience... I hope students will see they are a part of God’s call to go to the nations.”
