Wilson Neitzel and Evan McKee are leading the Havocs, Grand Canyon University's student fan group known for its energetic presence at sporting events. Their aim is to maintain a high level of enthusiasm among fans. "You know, to set the tone," said McKee, vice president of the Havocs.

The leaders will showcase their spirit at Midnight Madness, where GCU's basketball teams are introduced to students. Neitzel explained that various activities such as tailgates and in-game entertainment help keep fans engaged. "Keep them energized throughout the whole game," he said.

This year, new initiatives include free cake when the team scores 75 points or more and a return to theme nights like Electro Lope. The leaders have collaborated with university officials to create an event themed "Lope Vegas." Jesi Weeks from Spirit Programs noted the partnership between the Havocs and basketball teams aims to enhance GCU's reputation in college basketball.

A highlight of Midnight Madness will be a unique introduction featuring coaches Bryce Drew and Molly Miller with a Vegas twist. Neitzel emphasized that fostering school spirit is about creating a sense of community on campus. "We preach all the time – it’s just being together," he stated.

Neitzel and McKee have extended their enthusiasm beyond men's basketball, increasing attendance at women's volleyball and soccer games this fall. Neitzel, aspiring to be a school administrator, values his leadership experience with the Havocs, while McKee sees it as beneficial for his studies in sports management.

Reflecting on memorable moments, McKee recalled storming the court after defeating San Diego State last December. He highlighted this year's opportunity with a competitive team: "This year, we have this super opportunity in front of us now."

Neitzel remembered last spring's NCAA Tournament win against Saint Mary's as a significant moment for GCU. A CBS Sports montage featured him during this event: "It was absolutely electric," he remarked.
