Sen. Janae Shamp has been appointed as the next Senate Majority Leader in Arizona, entering her second term with a focus on conservative leadership. Shamp is set to guide Senate Republicans, emphasizing policies that uphold freedom, prosperity, and personal responsibility.

“I am truly honored and humbled by the trust The Republican Majority Caucus has placed in me to lead the Arizona State Senate,” Sen. Shamp wrote in a Nov. 13 social media post on X. “Together, we will work toward policies that strengthen Arizona, promote opportunity for all, and ensure that our state remains a beacon of freedom, prosperity, and personal responsibility. We will move forward with a united vision, grounded in our shared values, and with a commitment to serving the people of Arizona with integrity and purpose.”

According to a press release, Sen. Shamp has been appointed as the next Senate Majority Leader in Arizona, marking her second term as a legislator. Shamp has served on several committees and will now lead Senate Republicans, manage floor debates, and coordinate the legislative agenda.

Senate President Warren Petersen (R-14) will serve a second term in the role, continuing to lead the Arizona Senate and oversee legislative sessions. Senator T.J. Shope (R-16) remains Senate President Pro Tempore, bringing extensive experience from his previous leadership positions. Senator Frank Carroll (R-28) is appointed as the new Senate Majority Whip, tasked with aiding in securing votes for key legislation.

In the 2024 elections, Republicans increased their majority in the Arizona State Senate to 17 seats. The Democrats hold just 13 seats. In the Arizona House, Republicans now hold 31 seats to the Democrats 29.

Elected in 2022, Senator Janae Shamp is a Republican member of the Arizona State Senate, representing District 29. A former operating room nurse, she emphasizes public health and has been involved in legislation that aims to improve Arizona's medical infrastructure and support for families.

Shamp is a strong supporter of conservative values, including limited government and individual liberties. A resident of Surprise, she graduated cum laude from Arizona State University and received her nursing degree, also graduating cum laude, from Grand Canyon University.
