Student body Vice President David Pritchard has embraced the importance of living in the present, a lesson he attributes to his late father's advice. "Life is a gift," he reflects, emphasizing the need to enjoy each moment.
Pritchard, who aspires to become a pilot after graduation, was initially uncertain about running for student body vice president. Seeking guidance from his father, he was advised to focus on his career and early graduation to join the Air National Guard. However, during a subsequent conversation, his father encouraged him to pursue what truly excited him at that moment: positive change on campus through leadership in the Associated Students of Grand Canyon University (ASGCU).
This encouragement led Pritchard to confidently run for and secure the position of student body vice president. Tragically, it was their last conversation before his father's unexpected passing. The words "BE PRESENT," found in his father's journal, have since become a guiding principle for Pritchard.
In coping with this loss, Pritchard has relied on faith and support from friends and professors at Grand Canyon University (GCU). He aims to embody empathy and support for fellow students during his tenure as vice president.
Reflecting on his father's journey from an Air Force tanker pilot to a commercial pilot for Southwest Airlines, Pritchard notes how his father learned to appreciate life's journey rather than just its destinations. This perspective resonates with Pritchard's own approach as he navigates college life.
Pritchard expresses gratitude for GCU's role in helping him stay engaged and grounded amidst challenges. He remains committed to representing all students and being available for those who seek support.
David Pritchard is currently pursuing finance and economics while minoring in Spanish at GCU. His passion extends beyond academics; he enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. Following graduation, he plans to follow in his family's footsteps by joining the Air Force as a pilot.
