The forum for the student body president and vice president candidates at Grand Canyon University (GCU) highlighted key issues such as ice machines in residence halls. The two teams running for office presented their views during the event held at Ethington Theatre.

Ashley Cote, currently serving as ASGCU president, emphasized transparency and communication with students. She is now running for vice president alongside presidential candidate Everet Ross. Cote stated, “Our job is to let students know their voices are heard... The goal is to have transparency.” Cote and Ross discussed ongoing efforts regarding ice machines, stating they cannot be added due to plumbing issues but may be placed elsewhere on campus.

Their opponents, Tucker Hudson and Dianne Carla Mae Nasibog, both with experience in ASGCU’s Freshman Class Council and Senate, argued that adding ice machines is possible. Hudson also proposed implementing "crowd meter" technology at fitness centers to help students plan workouts efficiently.

Cote highlighted her accomplishments in reducing laundry costs on campus and maintaining open security gates by the mail center. She expressed confidence that her relationship with administration would benefit Ross if elected.

Nasibog shared her personal experiences growing up as an immigrant in Alaska, underscoring her commitment to ensuring all GCU students feel heard: “It’s my mission to make sure all GCU students feel that way because... we are all God’s children.”

Voting will take place from Wednesday morning until noon Friday via the GCU Life app. The elected leaders will start their term with training over the summer for the 2025-26 academic year.
