The GUHSD Governing Board has recognized six individuals and groups from Cortez High School with the Achievement Above All award. This honor is given to those who have shown exceptional dedication, leadership, and impact within the school community.
Tish Jefferson, a teacher at Cortez High School for 11 years, was honored for her work as an academic counselor and track coach. She has also been involved in programs like Link Crew and mentoring freshmen. Angie Dobberphul, a former supervisor, describes her as “one-of-a-kind,” emphasizing her supportive nature.
Student Kolby Lopez received recognition for his academic achievements and leadership skills. With a weighted GPA of 4.75, he ranks in the top 1% of his class while participating actively in sports and community service. Math teacher Katy Griepp commends his “intellectual curiosity” and motivation.
The Spiritline group was acknowledged for its role in boosting school spirit through various events such as pep rallies and community activities. Assistant Principal Brian Galbreath praises their example of leadership at CHS.
Nick Malding was recognized as the support staff recipient for his 18-year service as facilities foreman. He is known for maintaining campus operations efficiently despite budget constraints. Assistant Foreman Nick Charette calls him “an amazing leader.”
Volunteer Jerry Bonaguidi has contributed significantly to the Hart Pantry over five years by ensuring students receive food bags weekly. His involvement extends to representing the school during important processes, leaving a lasting impression on many lives.
These honorees exemplify the spirit of Achievement Above All through their commitment to making Cortez High School a better place.
