Hobby Lobby President Steve Green addressed students at Grand Canyon University's Chapel, held at the Global Credit Union Arena. During his speech, he highlighted the significance of Gutenberg's printing of the Bible, referencing LIFE magazine’s Millennium Edition listing it as the most important event of the past millennium.
Green emphasized the Bible's impact across various domains such as art, literature, and science. He shared insights from "The Impact of the Bible" exhibit at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., which he founded with his wife, Jackie. "That is what the goal is of the Impact Floor," Green stated. "It is to show...the Bible has had an impact."
During his visit to GCU for Integrity Week, Green also participated in a Symposium for Faith and Corporate Philanthropy alongside other notable figures including GCU President Brian Mueller and R. Scott Pyle.
In his address, Green encouraged students to engage deeply with the Bible. “My challenge is for you to devour it,” he said. He recounted Hobby Lobby's legal battle over religious liberties that reached the U.S. Supreme Court and reflected on lessons learned about stewardship and reliance on divine guidance.
Green also spoke about Hobby Lobby's beginnings in 1972 by his father David Green and its subsequent growth into a national chain with over 1,000 stores.
The family won their Supreme Court case against a federal mandate requiring them to provide contraceptives contrary to their beliefs. "Our nation is built on principles founded on God’s Word," Green noted.
He concluded by affirming belief in the truth and divinity of God's Word: “Not only is God’s Word true, it is divine.”
