The Symposium for Faith and Corporate Philanthropy took place at Grand Canyon University (GCU) on Monday. The event featured notable speakers, including GCU President Brian Mueller, Flip and Susan Flippen of the Flippen Group, Scott Pyle of Pyle Financial with his wife Dr. Pamela Prince Pyle, and CityServe co-founder Dave Donaldson.
Flip Flippen emphasized the importance of aligning personal beliefs with professional environments. He stated, “We’ve built our company so it’s very aligned with our mission and our values. … No organization will thrive if those two things aren’t perfectly aligned.” His remarks were directed towards students attending the symposium as part of GCU's Integrity Week.
Scott Pyle advised attendees to seek wealth in relationships rather than just financial gain. “Invest yourself in those you are in proximity with...you will be rich in relationships,” he said. Dr. Pamela Prince Pyle added that prosperity should not be sought solely for its own sake but used charitably.
Hobby Lobby President Steve Green also participated, emphasizing a market-driven approach to addressing poverty: “The government can’t solve the problem of poverty, but the free market system can.”
The event was moderated by Dave Donaldson and GCU President Brian Mueller. Mueller spoke about prosperity's role in charity, stating, “If somebody’s not prosperous, there’s no charity to give.”
Throughout the symposium, speakers encouraged students to focus on adding value over making money and stressed the importance of humility and purpose-driven work.
