Congressman Abe Hamadeh from Arizona's 8th District recently attended CANCON at the Ben Avery Shooting Center in Phoenix. The event is known as the largest fully suppressed range day and gun show event in the country. At CANCON, Hamadeh, who has served as a U.S. Army Reserve Intelligence Officer, was informed about the safety benefits of firearm suppressors and repeated his commitment to upholding Second Amendment rights.
Hamadeh is addressing issues surrounding suppressors, focusing on protecting gun owners' rights and promoting hearing safety for hunters, recreational shooters, and law enforcement in Arizona. He is co-sponsoring three legislative efforts related to suppressors. Suppressors, also known as silencers, are firearm accessories aimed at reducing noise, recoil, and muzzle blast. Misunderstandings surrounding these accessories stem from their definition in current law, which creates confusion for citizens and manufacturers. Hamadeh's efforts aim to clarify these definitions to prevent misclassification and potential criminalization.
He is supporting the Protecting Americans' Right to Silence (PARTS) Act, introduced by fellow Congressmen August Pfluger and Jared Golden, which seeks to amend the statutory definitions of silencers to prevent misinterpretation. Additionally, Hamadeh is backing the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) with Congressman Ben Cline to lessen the barriers for purchasing suppressors. The third initiative is the SHUSH Act, initiated by Congressman Michael Cloud and Senator Mike Lee, which aims to eliminate excessive regulations around suppressors.
"The muzzle may be quiet, but the message is loud: liberty belongs to the people, not the ATF," expressed Congressman Hamadeh. He emphasized that current policies and definitions have caused significant confusion, aiming to weaken Second Amendment rights. Hamadeh pledges continued efforts to defend these rights.
The PARTS Act garners support from organizations like Silencer Shop and the American Suppressor Association. The HPA is backed by groups including the ASA, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the National Rifle Association, among others. Supporters of the SHUSH Act include the National Association for Gun Rights and Gun Owners of America.
