The family of Levy Isaac Madueno Santibañez, a 17-year-old boy who was shot dead by Glendale police in 2019, is suing the city and the police department after filing a $10 million claim.
According to AZ Central, Santibañez was attending an illegal party in October with 200 other attendants after the police showed up after gunfire was reported.
The first to arrive was Officer Dylan Ansell, who has been with the Glendale Police Department for four years. According to the claim, Ansell reported having seen muzzle flashes in the crowd, which forced him to order everyone to put their hands up.
According to the claim, a high-powered military-type AR-15 rifle was used to shoot Santibañez in the back three times.
The $10 million claim is based on gross negligence by the officer after firing his weapon in public while not facing any imminent danger.
Based on the footage from the in-car camera and Ansell's body camera, there were several gunshots from the crowd, and people started running away from the party venue.
Detectives, later on, found 60 rounds of spent firearms and tied some to a handgun that was recovered from Santibañez.
