After Governor Doug Ducey’s latest executive order, the city of Peoria's Rio Vista Recreation and Peoria Community Centers will remain temporarily closed until further notice to protect the health and safety of city employees and residents.
On Thursday, July 23, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2020-52, which extends provisions of Executive Order 2020-43, ordered through July 27, 2020, including those pausing business operations for certain businesses, shall be extended, remain in place and continue to be reviewed for repeal or revision every two weeks.

After Governor Doug Ducey’s latest executive order, the city of Peoria will close the Rio Vista Recreation and Peoria Community Centers to protect the health and safety of city employees and residents.
On Monday, June 29, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2020-43, which prohibits large gatherings, ceases the issuance of new special event licenses, and pauses the operations of bars, gyms, movie theaters, waterparks and tubing rentals for one month. In accordance with this executive order and the health guidelines provided by the Arizona Department of Health Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on facial coverings, social distancing and personal hygiene to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the Rio Vista Recreation Center and Peoria Community Center will be closed effective immediately until July 27. While the center is closed, all current Rio Vista membership terms will be extended accordingly. The human and social services provided through the Community Assistance Resource Center will continue to be accessed by appointment only. The existing hydration stations, virtual classes and home delivered meals and curbside meal pickups will continue at the Peoria Community Center as well.
Programs and services at city pools and libraries will continue in limited capacities, pursuant to existing executive orders and the City of Peoria’s reopening plan. Splash pads will remain closed and swim lessons will continue at the Peoria and Sunrise Pools, with additional physical distancing and cleaning standards in place.
During this time, there are still opportunities for residents to take advantage of city services. At the Peoria libraries, online access to digital library books, audio books, streaming video and music is available to anyone with a current Peoria library card. Sunrise Mountain Library will have limited, lobby-only hours Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and closed on Sunday. The Peoria Main Library will have limited hours Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required with fewer than 10 people allowed in the library lobbies at a time. Additionally, all materials will go through quarantined protocols for sanitation and curbside delivery and bookdrops will be available during operating hours. With 20 miles of hiking and biking trails throughout our city, there are many ways to stay active in Peoria besides the Rio Vista Recreation Center, while maintaining the CDC’s recommendation to minimize social interactions.
