City of Peoria issued the following announcement on Sept. 8.
The city of Peoria is partnering with Albertsons and Safeway Pharmacies to offer four vaccines – COVID-19, flu, shingles and pneumonia – to residents Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Oct. 6 and Oct. 12, 2021. These vaccines will be available at the Peoria Community Center, located at 8335 W. Jefferson from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Flu shots are free with most insurance policies and there are typically, no co-pays, but individuals are encouraged to bring their insurance cards and photo IDs. In addition, free, Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will be available for ages 12 years and older. This includes the booster shot for those who meet the requirements listed below. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose. This includes people who have:
- Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last two years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
